Ah, surely some missed calls are already on my phone screen.
Without answering any more, Caitlyn immediately received the call and pinned it between her right ear and shoulder. The woman spoke while continuing her work.
📲 “Ha–”
📲 “How dare you ignore my call.”
A heavy voice peppered with small groans rang out on the other end of the phone. Caitlyn just smiled broadly.
📲 “I'm not holding a phone, Al. I'm in the kitchen–”
📲 “Ck, you shouldn't bother like this. You can order it or have the waiter prepare it, right?”
Caitlyn laughed at the thoughtful thoughtful speech wrapped in fear.
📲 “No need to worry, babe. Remember if it's our wedding anniversary and I want to give you this little gift.”
A small laugh rang out in Caitlyn's ear.
📲 “You sure it's just a wedding anniversary gift not because you miss me?”
📲 “Do you mind that?”
📲 “Not really. Ok, do your best. Your request will be granted. See you.”
The phone call ended and Caitlyn returned the kitchen phone to Dita. The woman refocused on finishing the work that stayed a little longer. However, not long after, the appearance of her mother-in-law messed up Caitlyn's once good mood.
“You are indeed suitable if you continue to use the apron. Beautiful and decent looking,” Sania quipped.
“All women deserve to use it, Ma. Moreover, a wife who does not work and only expects money from her husband.” No less spicy satire turned Caitlyn. “I don't want to just spend Lean's money without being able to do something for her, Ma. How is it different from me?” Caitlyn raised her funding and immediately met with Sania's sharp gaze.
A small etched smile adorned her thin lips making Sania feel defeated then clenched her hands so tightly. The eyes of the two did not move as if they were attacking each other. Fortunately, Caitlyn's work is almost finished and just waiting for one last dish to be served.
“Oh, yes. Right enough. Especially a wife who has no children. She had to work hard to please her husband and in-laws. If not .. resentment and the label of the useless wife it will be attached to her. Isn't that right, Caitlyn dear?” he stabbed Caitlyn in the heart.
The situation has now turned around. Caitlyn was speechless while Sania smiled triumphantly. Dita who was there just silent like a living statue as if not listening to anything. Yes, tonight Caitlyn is only cooking in small quantities specifically for her and her husband. The two in-laws and the other family ate the dishes prepared by the maids on the first floor.
By the time Dita left the kitchen and headed for the 2nd floor, Caitlyn looked back at her mother-in-law with both hands folded over her chest.
“It looks like you forgot this one fact, Mama-in-law. Let me remind you again.” Caitlyn patted both her palms as if cleaning from the remnants of dirt after cooking, then she approached Sania. “This house and all its contents have been the rights of my husband completely not only Sanjaya Group. Even if I burned it down in the blink of an eye, my husband would not comment and would only build a new house that was much grander than the one you are currently in, Beloved Mama-in-law”
Sania was silenced and it made Caitlyn smile victorious then rushed after Dita, leaving Sania in a stifled emotion.
