"Our partner over there is not in the other direction. There seems to be a group of refugees living in this area." Another soldier spoke.
"Fortunately they're over there. Profit seems to us to be kept away from the source of the sound."
"You're right. I'll try to see if they're away." A soldier now settles to see the situation.
He gave us a sign of safety. So we got back in the car.
"Did you shoot earlier? I think we heard gunshots?" The mission leader checked us.
"Not Capt, it seems that there are other refugees in this city who have guns, those who carry out shootings. It's to the north of the city, it's in our favor to keep the infected away."
"Okay, you guys still have to wait there. We're still trying to find a way."
And we had to wait half an hour after that. To get the route certainty. And a few shots were still heard later. An hour later after being careful we made it through the outskirts of the city to then enter Little Rock.
"The usual journey is only one hour, but this we've been on for five hours. Just got into the edge of town." Aaron commented on our trip. Most likely almost a new sunset we could get into the military base.
"You're right. Really in the black zone is scary."
Fortunately, when we entered the city we could see a pick-up vehicle. At least they know the safe route of this city.
We entered the military zone safe at 7pm, although the sun was still shining, but obviously the nearly 7-hour journey was very tiring.
I threw myself into the hangar to straighten my legs after checking Aaron's condition, hopefully he's immune, today the temperature is completely normal.
"Mam, are you the nurse Jennifer?" One of the soldiers approached me.
"Yes." Yeah."
"Call for you from Doctor James. Come with me."
"Ohh good." James may have checked his patient's condition. I ran following the soldier to the command room.
"Jen? How's patient?" James is straight on the issue.
"She's good, today she doesn't have a fever at all."
"He has no fever at all?! Really true?"
"I monitored him once on the way and now, he's got no cycle of fever at all, all his vital signs are good. Now he was eating voraciously, chatting and resting. We just got here after a 6-hour trip."
"You didn't meet much infected?"
"There are infected pockets on the main line, we have to rotate deep into the forest, that's thousands. It's awful to be surrounded like that..." I unconsciously told the story of my journey. But after I thought again maybe it might worry him.
"Do I have to send you additional help? You guys just arrived 6 hours after you left?"
"Ohh no, you don't have to worry. They are experienced now. We won't go through there again, we already know the way to go. Tomorrow the journey will be shorter. We have to find a detour in the city before Little Rock because it's a long time, but it won't be long. No, everything is under control, if you send in help it will cause trouble with the mission chief captain. I'm fine." He remained attentive like the usual Andrew.
"More people are better."
"No need! There is absolutely no need, they can guarantee my safety. You don't have to do anything. I appreciate it, but it's really not necessary."
"It's not a big deal." He insisted on sending it.
"Andrew you can trust my request. I'll be back before lunch tomorrow."
"No, why should I obey you if I can do something." And I don't want him to do it for her, either.
"If you believe me I'll come back to you. And start learning to trust you." I was thinking maybe at the end of this world I could accept the person who was trying to protect me. Nobody knows tomorrow, maybe tomorrow we don't have another chance, like that, if we can't get out of that infected enclosure, what if I don't have another chance.
"You mean?"
"You know what I mean, Mr. Mayor." He was silent with my words.
"Please promise to get back to me safely. And meet me before lunch tomorrow." Finally he gave up telling others to come get me. I'm laughing a little.
"I'll see you, I've missed going back to Hot Spring. It's the most beautiful safe city."
"Break it right tonight."
"Did James know something about us."
"Yes, of course, he knows." I can't believe he told me about my relationship with James.
"I haven't even accepted you yet." She laughs.
"Now it is." With those words he hung up the phone.
