"Helicopter CDC is down! Noah, Jen, bring your gear and join Andrew's team!" Suddenly major Joseph walked into the ER room and ordered us into the special team.
"The hell is leaving..."
"Let's go Jen.." We went straight to the equipment section and picked up our pack of backpacks and paramedic gear, ran to the helicopter that was about to depart.
I saw DeAngelo waving at us. And we immediately got into the transport heli Bell UH-1 personnel who took us.
This must be a helicopter that brought in experts from the CDC, to look at our new conclusions to our newly discovered patient data and take samples of this new variant of the parasite.
"We're about to go 55 miles east, they made an emergency landing because of engine damage on a farm. Their location was unclear because communication was cut off. We'll see where they land ..." Andrew explained after we put on the headset.
Seven of his men were all involved in this rescue. We were on the air for about twenty-five minutes looking for a sign of their presence before we saw a black smoke in the air.
Their helicopter crashed into the trees, the engine was still smoky. And it seems that no one is there. Our helicopter landed there. There doesn't seem to be anyone. Where'd they.
"They can't go far.... They know we're gonna find them near the fall of their heli." Sean was a communications officer talking, while we looked at the area around us.
Short pastures and trees are rarely around us. Far away was seen a farmhouse surrounded by a high fence.
The soldiers are looking for a sign of their whereabouts. Bloodstains, footprints that could infer where they were going.
"The grass over there seems to be a lot of trampled ... Are they chased by a lot of infected hunger. There's a farmhouse..."
The soldiers walked further in that direction and seemed to find something.
"There's blood in this direction..." It means they're going that way. A soldier I know named Tommy gave me a sign.
"We follow..." We followed the soldiers. Maybe we have to travel a kilometer to reach the house in front of it. While the helicopter marked our location and flew back to the base. And the communications officer completed our state report to mission control.
Hot air overshadowed our steps. For the soldiers, this might be common. But my head was already throbbing pain under the scorching sun.
We walked for fifteen minutes towards the house. And then someone caught a shadow from his binocular lens.
"In his back yard seems a lot infected. But I've only seen a little bit because it's blocked by buildings and trees."
"Well, Tommy, DeAngelo, Sean check. The others we wait in those trees and keep your heads low." We can finally take shelter. Noah and I immediately took our drinking supplies and sat down for a drink, sweat causing us to bathe in our thick uniforms.
We waited in silence. While the surveillance team took a detour to check the condition of the entire house which was covered with trees around it.
Within ten minutes, the first person started reporting. Here the sun is still hot but the sky is dabbling in the distance as if there will be rain coming.
"I saw at least forty infected roaming the backyard."
"Sean?"
"I have a clear shot. Tommy and I can reduce their population." Dean and Tommy carry long guns. They are snipers. They can reduce the amount we have to deal with without having close contact.
"Do... We'll get closer after we get a sign from you." The sound of gunfire was heard later on many times. They were shooting at the infected they could reach.
I looked west of the house. There was a shadow moving in the distance that I could observe, but I wasn't sure if it was just a shadow of the sun or if there really were people.
"The sound of gunfire triggers all of them out..."
"Christ, Oliver's in the west there's about 10, get that done first..." Now that they see in their binoculars they start moving.
"We think we've cleared up here, boss..." The firing stopped later. But the west side has only just begun.
"We're advancing..." It seems safe. Except suddenly someone else heard and came. We all approached that pretty big farmhouse. The cows were left to forage in the meadow in the distance just like that. Nobody wants to eat cows now.
Not even ten meters away we were about to approach the old house, someone opened the door.
"Help us!" A woman waved and made us run faster ahead.
"You were sent to save us thankfully." They must be infection doctors from the CDC.
"The pilot was injured, we were chased a lot infected, we almost couldn't reach this house." Noah and I walked in while Andrew stayed out to watch things."
We entered the room, the front room of the house was dominated by brown brick containing a dark cloth sofa and a wooden table, and many large wooden cabinets with deer horn decoration.
There were six people, two pilots, three CDC officers and one security guard there. His leg appears to have been broken and another appears to have injured his head. They sat on the floor leaning against the wall.
"Tibia Invoice, closed... " Noah took the board and we assessed the position of the foot before laying the board to stabilize the position of the foot for mobilization to the heli later. Then tie it with a bandage so that its position does not run away.
"You doctors? You guys didn't bring your first water bags,..." I asked them. Two women and one man. Our pilot and co-pilot were injured.
"We're Infectious Disease Specialists, we took her but didn't have time to bring her in because by the time we made an emergency landing around we were already full of infected."
Our patient seems to be in a lot of pain, I took our auto injector kit IZAS-05, this is a special kit that every medic soldier brings in for first aid either from poison or against extreme pain. I took a red shot and plunged it into his thigh without warning. It contained morphine sulphate to help him endure the pain.
"Thanks mom..."
We checked one more person. He was leaning against the blood wall pretty much soaking his clothes. Even though his head was bandaged.
"So he was hit by a fairly large glass shard, his forehead was torn but his blood had stopped. He needed a lot of stitches."
"I need a sewing needle..." He can still joke. I quickly checked his temperature and blood pressure. Slightly below normal, but no decrease in body temperature, breathing and heart rate are still normal. He'll be fine even if he needs a lot of stitches.
"Evacs!" I shouted at Andrew.
"Ready!" They spoke on a communication device to request evacuation. While I was putting up an infusion for her to prevent her from reaching Hypovolemic Shock, the shock that occurred because you lost 30% of body fluids in this case your blood. And the CDC doctor helped me with the infusion.
Suddenly there were a lot of semi-automatic gunfire. What happened, didn't we have cleared up a lot of infections here.
"There are hundreds of them coming here!" In the distance hundreds of infected ran towards us.
"Oh my God!" I saw us as being surrounded.
